The Policy and Services Research Data Center (PSRDC) in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy is highly regarded as a reliable source of information for Florida policymakers and a national center of innovative research using administrative datasets.
The PSRDC is a unique component of the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI). The PSRDC has access to data on statewide Medicaid claims, mental health service claims funded by state and general revenue, adult corrections, juvenile justice, child welfare, and examinations under Florida’s civil commitment law (over a million reports generated since 1997).
The PSRDC also analyzes data generated by private (primarily mental health) agencies. These datasets, acquired through formal agreements with relevant agencies, have served as the foundation for some of the most important research conducted at FMHI. This research has included studying the impact of financing factors on service use, research on civil commitment, and research on child welfare. The PSRDC also serves as the host and analytic service for data generated by several county agencies in Pinellas County. The Pinellas Data Collaborative permits these agencies to ask data-related questions regarding behavioral health services utilization across agencies that otherwise cannot be addressed because of data compartmentalization within individual agencies.
The PSRDC provides expertise in all of the complex activities that are essential to working with large archival datasets (data cleaning, reliability assurance, etc.).
The PSRDC is HIPAA compliant. The PSRDC undergoes an annual audit as part of an Institute-wide audit to assure that all data and processing procedures meet or exceed stringent security guidelines.
